Samuel C. Goldman
Managing Director
Sam
Goldman has a broad background in developing and managing technology businesses.
As Co-founder in 1987 of Techniscribe, Inc., Sam and his partner set up a firm
that led the way in the writing of usable and accurate instruction and
maintenance manuals for software and hardware products throughout American
industry and commerce. It is these practical qualities that Sam and Ralph LaChance now bring to the clients of SPG: usability, accuracy to spec, and
quality of implementation.
At
the Software Products Group, Sam Goldman is handling marketing, administration,
and customer relations. His first entrepreneurial post was as founder and
president of Lee Scientific Corp. (dissolved oxygen analyzers). He then became
Chief Engineer, Director of Marketing and eventually General Manager at the
Nuclear and Ultrasound division of the Picker X-Ray Corporation, where he
directed the development of complex medical electronic equipment. Before
co-founding Techniscribe, he was president of Life-Tech, Inc. (biomedical
instruments).
Sam
Goldman holds BS and MS degrees in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the Delft Technical
University in The Netherlands. In addition to establishing SPG, he has become
active in mentoring startup technological companies.
Ralph LaChance
Chief of
Technical Staff
Ralph LaChance is an
accomplished software developer, program manager, and problem solving expert
with over 30 years of experience in the industry. He has focused his recent
activities in software development using advanced technologies emphasizing
cross-disciplinary situations, as well as software remediation, integration, and
modernization.
Before co-founding
SPG, Ralph was a senior software consultant to Invensys Process Systems, PLC,
a world-leader in industrial process and analytical control systems. At
Invensys, his area of expertise included the design of MES systems and Shop
Floor systems tightly integrated with real-time process control. Ralph also led the development on several highly specialized
human Interface
projects intended for use both by low level untrained staff and by expert users.
He is credited with launching, at Invensys, more than half a dozen separate products
.
Prior to his
work with Foxboro/Invensys, Ralph held managerial positions at
The Data General Corporation. His roles included senior positions in CAE/Design
Automation and Tools, Communications Hardware, and
Networked Applications.
The organizations he led are credited with above average results in
technical innovation, delivery on schedule, and productivity.
Ralph LaChance holds a
BSEE (cum laude) from The Honors College of The University of Connecticut,
and later was a research consultant at both McGill
University and the Boston University School of Medicine. Throughout his career he has stayed abreast of the latest techniques
and tools affecting industrial and analytical software. His work in the design
and implementation of GUIs has lead to major improvements in the usability of
the software packages to which they apply. He has written on an Adaptive
Approach to Teaching Integrated Circuit Fabrication and on a Computer
System for Distribution Fault Analysis, and holds
an industrial process
control patent with Foxboro/Invensys.
Andrew Langowitz
Senior Architect
Database and Algorithms Specialist
Andy Langowitz has been involved in the development
of data management software for over 25 years with experience covering
mainframe, minicomputer and personal computer systems and networks. He
has watched computer technology evolve from punched card and paper tape
systems to three-tier distributed systems using relational databases and
has taken part all along the way.
He has had complete responsibility for the design,
implementation and deployment of small and medium-sized systems, as well
as senior consulting roles in the design review and performance analysis
of large networks. His technical skills and experience encompass a wide
range of operating systems, databases and software development
platforms.
